Do self-help books help?
Everybody has their own perception of life. We approach issues differently because each person thinks differently. Something helpful for me might not help you or others but definitely, it might help some or a few. There is no one size fits all strategy. The same goes for self-help books or motivational videos or talks. There will be people who resonate well with you and your thoughts, whom you can relate to.
At least, once in a lifetime, everyone may go through some of the motivational quotes out there. We have seen that already in the “social media status” world. The quotes might be a perfect fit for the emotions a person was going through at that given point in time or it might have given them a good vibe. Obviously, there is no wrong with that. It doesn’t show someone is a coward or weak-hearted. In the end, you should feel better. That’s all it matters.
I say, the self-help book partially helped me leverage confidence in taking action. After all, action leads to progress rather than sitting at a corner and thinking for years. The progress might be microscopic but I believe the accumulation of this minor progress will certainly help in the long run. So now what is meant by “action”? Many might be thinking that self-help is only for those who want to earn more money, to achieve financial freedom, to capture the whole world and be the best, and so on. In fact, is that what self-help content only does?
Well, I don’t think so. It can be any small actions that can bring a smile to your face. The feeling of accomplishment, the feeling of achievement, the feeling of belief in yourself, the feeling of relief, etc. The actions can be anything — quitting a bad habit and cultivating good ones, an effort to improve oneself, preparing for a better job, learning a new skill, and many more. Actions are diverse!
Yes, I started abiding by a few of the above actions, and guess what? I am welcomed by happy mornings. You might have felt happier than normal in some mornings, don’t you? It might be because of some tasks you accomplished already, or anything that might have boosted your inner confidence, or just because of a good feeling. The same applies here.
So I am not here to enforce my opinion as a solution on others. As said in the beginning, everyone has their own perception of life. The only thing is whatever you choose that should make you feel better and relaxed in the end.
Word does have the power to influence the mind and our thought process!
